Recording Heart and Voice men’s choir
Last month my two oldest boys (Tristan and Alex) and I traveled to Harrisonburg, VA, to record video and audio of the Heart and Voice men’s choir program. We focused on the afternoon program, held at Park View Mennonite Church. We had a memorable trip both traveling and doing the production work. Because we were recording both audio and video, preparation at the time of the event was a bit hectic, and I failed to get any behind-the-scenes photos. However, everything came together well and we were ready when the program kicked off. I used a seven camera set up for the video — one wide angle, two side angles, a conductor view, and three cameras with operators. The audio was recorded with two Neumann KM184 microphones that I rented for the occasion. This was definitely an upgrade over the much less expensive Samson C02’s I own and have used in the past. All in all, it was a great experience that afforded me the opportunity to test a couple of new ideas, and I hope the music will be a blessing to many. Blessings to all, Geryll
